Creativity and Attention to Detail

Design is an artistic career choice. Unlike many artists, I don’t necessarily design per my own style every time I work in someone’s home. Instead, I get to use my creativity to produce a design that fits your needs and preferences. A design that makes you feel at home. I am a stickler for details and insist they are right every time. 

 

Vision 

I am a visual thinker. If you ask me to decorate a cake for a birthday celebration (which I love to do!), I can “see” the finished product pretty quickly in my “mind’s eye". I can also see potential in outdated, dysfunctional, and even empty spaces. I thrive when I need to find solutions that work with small spaces, unusual color palettes, and even complicated renovations.

Knowledge of Design Trends and Styles

Whether my clients are looking for a mid-century modern look or a French country aesthetic, I must be able to meet their needs. It’s a good thing that keeping up with design trends and classic styling elements is what I like to do in my spare time!  I will never stop learning and therefore my interior design knowledge is always up-to-date.  

 

Color Basics Knowledge

Color has transformative powers. It can make or break a space. Great designs use it in their favor. My understanding of the color wheel, hues, and complementary shades help me to define pleasing palettes for my clients. 

 

Understanding of Spatial Balance 

The way a room is set up can create harmony and change visitors’ moods. The balance of lighting, furniture layout, and finishings set the tone for the spaces I design. Creating interior spaces with balance and harmony in mind will boost a space’s form and function.

Communication Skills

Previously a marketing and communications professional for many years, I have learned to be an active listener. I focus on what clients are saying (as well as not saying), take time to understand and comprehend their needs and wants so that I can respond thoughtfully with a design that suits them. I believe effectively listening and communicating are essential to meeting clients’ expectations. 

 

Budgeting Skills  

Many clients come to me with an idea and a budget. Often cases, the cost of the former will far exceed the latter. However, the pursuit to find creative solutions to financial and design limitations is where I thrive and getting clients the best bang for their buck has been my key to success!
